Purpose:
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is responsible for conducting in-depth investigations into serious and organized criminal activity. CID gathers evidence, develops suspects, executes warrants, and builds cases that support successful prosecutions. Their focus is on long-term investigations rather than routine patrol duties.
Requirements:
CID Certification required.
Approval from CID leadership or Command Staff.
Officers are expected to maintain professionalism and confidentiality during investigations.
Responsibilities:
Investigate major felonies and repeat offenders.
Collect, preserve, and analyze evidence.
Conduct surveillance and intelligence gathering.
Prepare and execute search and arrest warrants.
Coordinate with Patrol, SWAT, and other specialized units when necessary.
Maintain organized case files and investigative reports.
Deployment Guidelines:
CID may respond to scenes requiring investigative follow-up or when requested by supervisors.
Active investigations should be handled discreetly to avoid compromising evidence or ongoing operations.
Patrol officers should relay relevant information and evidence to CID when requested.
Restrictions:
CID investigations should not interfere with active patrol operations unless authorized.
Sensitive investigative information should only be shared on a need-to-know basis.
All investigative actions must comply with department SOPs and applicable laws.
