Purpose:
The Tactical (TAC) Certification authorizes officers to deploy and utilize department-issued tactical rifles during situations where an elevated level of force may reasonably be required. TAC officers provide additional firepower during high-risk incidents while remaining responsible for using only the force necessary to resolve the situation safely.
Requirements:
TAC Certification required.
Officers must remain proficient with tactical weapons and follow all department use-of-force policies.
Deployment Guidelines:
TAC weapons should only be deployed during high-risk situations where their use is justified.
Officers must continue to match force appropriately and de-escalate whenever possible.
TAC officers may support patrol, SWAT, or perimeter operations when requested.
Clear communication with responding units and supervisors is expected when deploying a tactical rifle.
Restrictions:
Tactical rifles are not for routine patrol or standard traffic stops.
Deployment must be based on the threat level, not officer preference.
Officers are responsible for safely handling, storing, and deploying all tactical equipment.
Misuse of TAC equipment or unnecessary deployment may result in certification review or removal.
